Yi Chao, PhD., Founder & CEO, Seatrec

Yi Chao has a Ph.D. in Oceanography from Princeton University. After a 20-year career at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory as a scientist working on ocean modeling and satellite oceanography, Dr. Chao founded Seatrec, Inc. in 2016. Seaterc’s mission is to provide global 3D ocean data to better predict hurricanes, protect our ocean, and manage resources in the ocean.  Early 2023, Seatrec launched a new product, infiniTEä (infinite Thermal Energy) float, the first autonomous profiling float powered by the clean and renewable energy from natural-occurring temperature differences in the ocean.
