Venugopalan Pallayil

Venugopalan Pallayil is a physicist turned engineer who researches in underwater acoustics. He is a Principal Research Fellow and Deputy Head at the Acoustic Research Laboratory, Tropical Marine Science Institute, National University of Singapore (NUS) where he has been a staff for the past 25 years. He was the program manager for project ROMANIS, an underwater ambient noise imaging system, which won the prestigious Defence Technology Prize, Singapore. He is the General Chair for OCEANS 2024 Singapore, a Senior Member of IEEE and IEEE OES VP for OCEANS conferences. He served as OES VP for Technical Activities during 2019-2020 period.  He won the OES Presidential Award in 2018 for his volunteering services to the Society. He serves on the Director Board for International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV). He is a member of the UN Decade of OCEANS Technology Innovation Working Group and also the Marine Technology Society.
