Mohd Rizal Arshad is a full professor at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at
Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in control and robotics; especially on the applications of marine
intelligent robotics system. He received his B.Eng. in Medical Electronics and Instrumentation
from the University of Liverpool in 1994, MSc. in Electronic Control Engineering from the
University of Salford in 1995 and PhD in Electronic Engineering in 1999 (Univ. of Liverpool).
Prof Arshad has supervised many postgraduate students and has published extensively in local and
international publications. He is a professional engineer with the Board of Engineer Malaysia and
a professional technologist with the Malaysian Board of Technologist. He is also a chartered
marine engineer with the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) and
UK Engineering Council, IEEE senior member, founding chair of OES Malaysia, recipient of IEEE
OES Presidential Award 2019 and, recently appointed as one of OES Distinguished Lecturers (DLs)
for 2024-2026. He is the pioneer in underwater system technology and robotics research in
Malaysia.
